League became too complicated to enjoy and too fast paced to follow. Instead of sticking with a core fan base Riot constantly tried to change the game and bring in more players. Unfortunately when you make the game more appealing to “casuals” you lose the community of people built around the game. I loved League but I think League has moved on from being a game worth investing time in. It used to be about the players. Now league is about the game. You can’t enjoy a game if you constantly have people changing what you knew and loved.
It seems like the game is now copy paste strategy wise. Meaning to win you just follow the best approach without mistakes or unique creative choice approach options...or otherwise risk losing. I hate games I have to copy, mimmick strategies to win.
I think Ghost crawler fails to understand what league fans want his design philosophy is "if we keep changing league eventually people will start liking the game" which is a terrible thought process , but i also believe we as fans failed to make it transparent we don't like these changes in fact I believe riot should allow the community to vote for big changes instead of making it for us in my opinion besides balance the things that kill the game for me are these couple things:
1 Riot changes the summoners Rift map but also changes it identity it doesn't have it same vibe as the original.
2 Riot makes limited legacy skins pointless the whole point of these skins is their rarity when riot re-releases one of these skins it shits of old players who have them.
3 Riot removes items that no one asked to be removed season 1-4 had cool unique items that you could use on your champ to make them hybrids now a days their trying to force champions to build a certain way with no variation.
4 There was nothing wrong with leagues old lore it was unique it made it seem like you actually control these people summoners felt like gods we were those gods.
5 In my opinion Zoe is the worst designed champion in league she doesn't belong in the league universe you already have aurelion sol you don't need this Disney looking characters in your game were not kids Riot.
Bruh. You might not read this cause you prolly dont care much about league anymore or just flooded with comments.
But i implore you to play nexus blitz when it goes on the game again (they said itll be permanent but iunno)
All i know is that its pretty damn entertaining to play much more so than dominion for me.
Try it. You wont regret it even if you just exclusively play nexus blitz in league.
Dude fucking taric was the boss. I remember playing taric all the time. Me and my friend had this great pick bot lane. Annie and Taric. Taric stun into Annie's tibbers into Giga smash and mini smash. Such an awesome combo... When Taric was reworked I was initially excited, but then when I tried playing him... He is totally worthless now. Literally all the power that taric once had is gone. He's left completely reliant on teammates. It sucks... Exactly the same with Soraka. Soraka was so awesome! Remember the starcall and how it used to trigger when any enemy was in range? It used to work for stealthed champions and the heals were so powerful. Now Soraka is also trash...
I have this problem most of the time I play league, I am playing a champion like ekko and have to spend the first 5 minutes of the match simply reading the abilities... Why?
And on top of that almost all champions are the same... Almost every new champion released has a dash... Why? Since when was league about having infinite mobility? Now champions like annie really can't be played without protobelt... Since when did you have to buy a particular item to make the champion viable. I remember before the adc rework I played APC Caitlin. Was hilarious and I actually got fed. The traps and net scaled off AP and with Liandries you could easily 100 to 0 someone if they walked over an unsuspecting trap. It was hilarious. Also AD Malzahar, now that's only viable in rapid fire...
I also miss Nasus' old voice... Alas
I feel ya. I was so disappointed when they redid Nasus's voice. The lines were mostly kept the same, but the voice work just sounded less epic, almost like he was bored. All they did was redo the lines with a filter over them. *sigh*
And I'm still not happy about the new mastery system. I used to have my like... 11ish mastery sets for my favorite champions or interchangeable roles, and then three runes sets, one for AP, one for AD, and one for jungle or something like that. Now I have the five cookie cutter mastery sets they give us, and only three or four that I can change to my liking. There's 130 fucking champions. THat's not nearly enough! I could mix and match my mastery and rune pages before and have something good for almost any champion, but now I either play one of like 2 or 3 champions I like, or I pick something a little different to try and have fun, but then panic about my mastery page!
Im not a mechanically strong player, but I do have game knowledge and know how to have an impact on the game even with my skills. Used to play a lot of fiora top lane. She doesn't have a great escape but with map awareness i was able to play her safely and having an on click ult was perfect for me. Now I can hardly play her, is she stronger yeah definitely in the right hands but those hands aren't mine anymore.
I know im late to comment but what I think one of the worst problems with league is how complicated it is I just started playing league a few months ago and I understand what im doing a little but its just so complicated you need to learn all these characters items and if you are new to the game don't even bother touching competitive that's a toxic shot hole over there
The game was changed mostly for the pro scene... The majority of their change has been to manipulate the meta. They have always said the players create the meta, which might be true up until they nerf and buff around what the players do, so they can bring it closer to how they want the players to play.
the one thing I'll agree with is the focus on roles where the lane matches the champion pool and the fact that riot is starting to pidgeon hole champions into an identity tied to a role/lane
You talk about meta changing making it hard to keep up but thats just changing skins. Like literally the roles and lanes haven't changed for 6+ years. With all the change you talk about in the game its still: Tank/Bruiser Top, Tank/Bruiser/Assassin Jungle, Mage/Assassin Mid, Ranged ADC bot, and support bot. The cast of characters changes, but the pro drafts don't look all that different years later.
Unfortunately there maybe some logic to how riot is designing. You look at a champion like Lee Sin whose kit is going on 7 years old, but basically works the same (despite losing the anti-stealth and I think the AS reduction on E which sucks). Its because the abilities worked together as a cohesive whole. This is why a champion like Urgot might be considered bad, they got out performed by newer kits (which always ended up being more loaded) that were better designed.
You mention OP shit. If I recall DOTA was (and I think still is) filled with overpowered shit. I think riots been TOO afraid to make OP shit. In DOTA there was often a pick or even just an item I could pick up to counter strong abilities. I love the design behind Pike, a support asssassin is such a wicked cool idea and they gave him the tools to be that. Theres an assassin type character in DOTA that goes invisible and heals ALL damage way better than Pike does, Theres a character who can teleport like every 10 seconds, One who can make copies of himself, one with a Damage over time ability that kills you the further you run away, a spear ability that goes like two screens and stuns (nidalee spear on crack), and a blitzcrack hook that goes about as far. This is all without going into how you can buy an item thats litterally flash on like a 6-12 second CD (not in combat), stealth on tiems, and items that make your ultimate like multiple times better.
Im not saying LoL should copy DOTA exactly but theres some important take ways. DOTA 2 took changes and updates slower with ranked games only seeing the changes until they were fully tested. Its also not afraid to have overpowered abilities. everyone has overpowered shit, the point is that there is counterplay. A healthy game and a healthy meta has counterplay. I think MOBA games are set up from the start to be doomed by a meta until its broken by a patch.
Maybe one day we'll see one where the game is more open ended, the strategies less set in stone, with a low enough skill floor to bring in players, and a high enough one to allow for a competitive scene. Until then I've never seen a point in league with as much variety. Tanks can go everwhere but bot lane carry. Marksman are still iffy mid but have places in jungle, top, and bottom. Support has a wide range of play styles from aggressive, defensive, to healers, and now out right damage dealing in pyke (pike?). Theres more melee mid then ever. The Artstyle has drastically improved, runes are gone which is good for new players (i'd have liked to see them just remove masteries and rolled them into runes somehow while giving everyone all the runes). I think its a good game, a game loved by the developers, the pro scene is fun to watch.
Its one problem is yes, the learning curve is incredibly steep.
I just woke up to this on auto play and made me sad... I loved dominion so much that even ascension was great to me because it was the same map. They have removed so many fun things from the game, the donger was my main because the rework i thought he was just fine. I like his ult before where it upgraded all abilities for a time and you could regen turret health and allies. And right as i started getting into playing galio sup they went and reworked that too. Now nearly every champ they rework is busted and they wait far too long to balance if they even do because money? SIGH! Akali how long has that rework been live now and they have not balanced the cancer of her shroud. Like why do they keep making champs that completely break how the game is supposed to work. Like Kayn what is the point of having walls when he can run from base to river uninterrupted, at least talons is on a sizable cd and Aurelions is on a long cd too and quite tellegraphed. They added camouflage because Invis was too strong but then they added in true invis where a champ is untargetable for however long the ability lasts? i mean fizz has it but they is his everything. Plus every fucking champ that is a "bruiser" get percent damage reduction on a spell even tanks. And now they added all that BS true damage jackassery with conq and IE doing true damage i think it is time to revert exhaust to slowing attack speed again because the spell is next to useless with how over powered ignite is in its current state. I don't think i have seen exhaust more than prob 5 times in like 100 games. Last note why are hyper carries also strong in the early game it does not even make sense they are supposed to be late game monsters not lane bullies too.
KLEDD, OH SWEET KLED,
HAHAHAHHAH CHOGATH AND RYZE CHANGES MADE ME LAUGH//// HAVENT PLAYED IN 4 YEARS, COMING BACK TO TRY... BUT LOL AT THIS FIRST OLLOLOLLOLOLOLLOLOLOLLOLOOOOOLOOLOLOLLO
Hey suggestion try out heroes of the storm bro like it might hit the niche that you have man like personally its alot easier than league to understand and has its own perks of the stability you want and stuff like league to me has to much going on like items runes masteries like to much to keep track of to much to try and strategize when your hero build and your skill should show your wins not your items or broken mechanics
Actually, Yorick did not get a new skin during that 5 year span because RIOT knew he was the most broken champion in the game but did not know how to fix him, so they locked him out of free to play rotations and did not give him skins to try to cover up the problem until his rework
I totally agree with your Gangplank points. He was one of my favorite champs to play, and now I will not pick him. If i get him in ARAM I reroll, and that is the saddest part. He was easy to play before, but now his whole kit is based around gaining serpents by killing stuff and placing barrels, and any player worth a damn knows to stay away from his barrels now, so he is shafted on multiple fronts in my eyes.
cant see trick playing udyr with a bow saying "I am the one that tanks up when you attack, run around alot, or be strong, im just the next best adc with a stun and a tank ability! i , am, mundo! oh sorry im udyr"
I refer everyone to this video as to why I finally stopped playing as of recent.
I was also a Galio one trick, so I too, was pissed off massively when they reworked him. Id actually have to say that was my breaking point.
Everyone talking shit in champ select about me picking Galio. I proceed to carry going 14/0. The praise after felt so good. Galio was the first champ that got me to Diamond.
The game just became unenjoyable.
You didnt mention the most stupid thing that Riot did, and thats the reason many players leave league of legends, the fact that the tied the honor with the rank so you get the rewards, so even if u are gold or higher u cant get the rewards if you are not at honor level 2. why should i even play if i dont get my rewards?
You honestly just sound whiney.... I champion rework shouldn't get make you not wanna play. If that is so, then your playing it for the wrong reason dude. Yeah, I can admit that the constant changes does get pretty annoying, however, that has never taken me out of the fun of playing. Again, you just sound whiney.
That doesn't make any sense to me. You can now play any champion with any lane or jungle. I can play master yi in any lane or jungle, I can play ahri in any lane or jungle, I can play nautilus in any lane or jungle. Riot made each character so they didnt have a specific role... I fail to see how alistar is forced into support
I'm with you on this one man. I started playing during the Darius/Draven double release back in season 2, and I played that game every single day all the way through the end of season 3, and through the majority of season 4. I was already pretty salty in season 4 with the removal of force of nature and some other great items that really didn't need to be removed, but I kept playing because I enjoyed the characters, the gameplay, and hanging out having fun with friends. Then Riot decided it was a good idea to start reworking every fucking champion in the game one at a time, and slowly a huge percentage of the characters I enjoyed were lost forever. I imagine it sort of like a scene of someone dropping their phone right as they walk over a sewage grate and reaching out shouting "NOOOO" in slow motion as they failed to catch it in time and it falls right on down the cracks into a literal pool of shit.
Mordekaiser, Alistair, Galio, Gangplank, Sion, Taric, Maokai, Soraka, Gragas, Xerath, the list goes on. Not all of them were bad of course, I enjoyed the Sion rework, Xerath is still good, but the ones that were bad were BAD. I loved Critplank. Now? I don't even fucking understand how you're supposed to play him. Galio? He was amazing, he had one job and he was good at it. Now as you've said, he's this boring generic character with no identity. Mordekaiser was fantastic. Then they decided he needed to be a support or something and most of his abilities require an ally or some shit? I'm still not sure what's up with that one. Alistair, the AP cow equivalent of one punch man, relegated to a support bitch. Gragas, the cask throwing monster, he's apparently still good but I just can't enjoy him the way I used to with his "new" kit. Not to mention the many many changed voice actors that simply didn't fit the champion as well as the previous ones, and the many horrible metas where one select set type of champions simply went the whole season being absolutely imbalanced, and the horribly boring and frustrating metas that took a lot of fun out of the game. I'd love to be able to go back to season 2 or season 3, where things made sense and the characters I enjoyed were untouched by riots disgusting rework team. If they wanted characters that did these things so much why didn't they just make new ones instead of completely dicking over the people that ENJOYED them as they were?
Maybe a lot of this is just me venting frustration, or speaking from nostalgia against the changes that were made. Unfortunately it got to the point where I uninstalled the game about a year ago and haven't looked back. Riot destroyed a wonderful gem of a game for me, and I don't really thing there's anything they can do to convince me the game is worth playing anymore. As much as I'd love to get into the game again, I just can't see myself dealing with the way they handle the game. Honestly Riot, I'm really not mad. I'm just disappointed.
from day one i played LOL till the heat death of the universe, i will always get high and dopped when some1 steps on teemo's mushroom and die, want a more enhanced experience? start drugs and play teemo
There is nothing you said in this video that I disagreed with. This was a perfectly accurate assessment of an amazing game that needs to settle down.
(It’s still on my laptop, untouched for almost 3 years now)
For example Aatrox rework. The design, voiceline, skills... It completely sucks.I miss the old personality of Aatrox, the bloodthirst and attack speed build. Now we got a ultra angry middle-aged wingless thing.Wings...I miss the wings.
To this day,, I keep getting ads about LoL... Oh my fucking God, JUST SHUT UP, YOUTUBE! I WILL NEVER PLAY IT IF YOU KEEP SHOVING IT IN MY FACE!!!!!!!! YOU HEAR ME ALGORITHM?!?! I. WILL. NEVER. PLAY. LEAGUE. OF. FUCKING. LEGENDS!!!!! my mindset is: I like fps games that have a deep, sci-fi story, and interesting characters... like pre halo 4 halo games, Destiny 2 (to an extent). I tried HoTS, played for 10 games, then really didn't care for it. Call me a pussy, idfc. But I still watch videos like this just to have something going on in the background while I grind away... good vid as always!
I was in the same boat about a year ago, burnt out with league and just not having fun anymore. But recently I decided to pick it up again because of worlds and am having a blast with it again because it feels so different and I'm excited learning everything over again. I tried the same thing with overwatch but that is a game that has seen very little change over the past 2 years and I just couldn't get back into it.... because it was exactly the same as when I left it
have to agree, yep this is all true. not even playing the game no more, just watching lcs.
Mr pirate was fun, now not really. You could play taric agressive, now you cant. Galio, xerath, and maokai ult....no just no. Oh and shen rework
I don't think adding new champs is a bad thing at all if they keep creating new champs that's awesome for all I care they could have 5000 champs and would want to learn every last one of them i don't see why anyone would complain about them creating new champs
I remember the moment, when the old katarina was such fun to play like teleportating around, making god damn plays and so on if you know what i mean. After her rework i felt like a piece of myself was cut out. Then it came to stop maining her and searching for other fun champions to play. So i started playing jungle with Shyvanna. Although mostly of the players didnt play her and said she was boring, Riot also reworked her. At this point i really had to cry, all the time i had so much fun playing her.
Like really why did Riot changed the most popular game into the most changing game ever. Rip.
I really like this video but it has some oversights
People enforce meta, not Riot. Champions are put into categories because of their skillset, but nothing is stopping you from using them in different ways. I play about 20 games of League a day, and I see a lot of cool stuff, like Crit Garen, Alistar AP top, and I even see that kind of stuff in competitive. Right now, in Worlds, a team played Heimerdinger on bottom lane as a carry, and it worked. In Draft mode the game just says "Top, Mid, Bottom, Support and Jungle", while I agree that necessarily saying that you need to Jungle is defining meta, nothing is stopping you from playing Annie top, Caitlyn mid, Garen support, etc. In fact, I see that kind of stuff in ranked. And corret me if I'm wrong but Riot doesn't ban people from doing non-meta things
I personally think Riot should take a page out of Jagex's book and release a "Old School" client or version of the game, nostalgia is a massive market and the game is old enough and big enough to be able to really make something like "Old School LoL" work.
You just earned yourself a New subscriber for this video. I've been telling myself and my friends this a long time. It's like a domestic relationship.. When you brought up Crystal scar and dominion I wanted to cry, and I almost did. I agree With you man, miss the old masteries and runes.. They're unbalanced and as you said, less variety..
I've been away from the game for a year. And I feel compelled to get myself up to date on everything i've missed. Checking the news....the last posts I remember are 37 pages deep. I've spent the last two nights of my free time reading patch notes, champ updates, new champs, more patch notes, new game modes (then reading they've been taken out), and new champ lore and world settings....I'm on page 12. I still have 12 more pages to go and THEN I feel like i can play a game as prepared as possible.
But I know once i get in game that I'm going to feel like a turd thrown against the wall. My rank has fallen due to inactivity. My grasp on meta and balance is non-existent. And I'm not sure what's performing well and what isn't. I can fix many of those things...by spending more time watching streams, reading on third party sites, and so on. But that means even more time spent NOT playing the game.
If you wanted to buy a car after owning yours for ten years. But had to sit through a two hour class for several days to learn how the same model has changed during that time. Or be thrown into it and forced to learn it while driving in rush hour in a busy city downtown. Neither situation is desirable and each one would make you think that maybe it's time to just look for something new. Since you could learn the new thing in the same fashion with more enjoyment...since your mindset is that you're a noob and don't have to be at a certain level when you start playing. Unlike league, where I feel like a dumbass when I log in on a plat 5 account and play at a silver 5 level because i've been away. Feels bad man.
I joined LoL between season 1 and season 2. I remember dodge runes. I remember being able to win with an all support team. I remember TEEMO!! I loved that little bastard. I played him as an ADC and AP. I loved having a minefield of shrooms all over the map and people dying because they stepped on a shroom. Best thing was when they walked away after a battle to recall and boom! There was a shroom. I loved it. I just stopped playing one day. Idk why. I always wondered what happens to league.
I agreed with when you said you can't play what you want. I love to play strange things and try new things, like Shaco Tank, Vyne jungle, Morgana ADC, etc. So I set the runes, the talent, the items and go (wining the game). Now it is not posible you play what Riot want you to choose and for me was a big part of why I left the game.
Imo it’s...the same, which is not necessarily a problem, the game IS FUN, but each person will mature or simply get bored of it eventually, in the end of the day it’s a game with no End. So yeah, people will leave, but some will arrive
What I hate the most about League is how it is so fucking repetitive. Riot wouldn't have to change so damn much about the game if we had more maps that are viable like literally EVERY game. But no we just got SR and maybe ARAM that are some sort of playable. But what about making a 4v4 map with different objectives? Make twisted treeline great again? Or atleast make every game mode stay permanent and not just for 1-2 weeks every 2 years. I loved the gangplank gamemode where you could upgrade the minions and all but ofc they removed it aswell. Thats why I love HotS because they got a ton of maps and gamemodes that are all different and the meta also changes depanding on which map you play
I was a top lane main. They changed (probably out of order) Nasus, Fiora, Gangplank, Garen, Darius, poppy, and more. I always loved simple champions and didn't like champions that felt needlessly complicated. They took most of that away in an effort to make champions "more engaging". I understand that there were a lot of simple champs, but did they have to hit all of them? The juggernaut update was the biggest example of this.
Hitting me right in the feels man. I just came back to league about two months ago after about a 3 year hiatus. There wasn't any certain reason I stopped playing, I still liked league, I just didn't have time for it. When I came back to it, I checked out the runes. Wait, I don't remember this stuff. Oh, well it's been a long time, I'm not surprised they changed it up a bit. Picked some runes, then I loaded up a game and went right to my main man, Gangplank. Wait, wtf is this barrel stuff? Where is my Raise Morale? Where is Gangplanks laugh, and yarr? LAME! My champ is gone! Now I have been playing trying to re-master a Champ that I don't really like. I have given up. They ruined him. I am now looking for a new champ (Leaning towards Dr. Mundo). I played all modes of LoL back in the day, and like I said, it has been a while, so when I came back I did summoners rift, twisted treeline, ARAM, and I thought there was another one, but I guess I was wrong because they wouldn't remove it. Then I see your video and I remember I used to LOVE playing Dominion. It was a much faster pace, a lot less laning and tons of fights. God I miss that. I also loved that it wasn't competitive. I could try new champs and builds in dominion without getting flamed. Can someone re-make season 4 LoL?
No. They reworked Galio, cause his kit was unhealthy for the game. Too old. Unpaced by everything.
His Q. Just dont count on hitting it, with a wonky hitbox, slow speed.
His E. Useless? Nocturn. In worse. Kled. In worse. Also too slow, again bad hitboxes.
His W and Ult were fine, whilest his W beeing a bit too strong for a simple ability.
So they put them together, keeping the spirit of the old abilitys and balancing them out.
Same goes for Warwick, just unhealthy and old.
Same for Gankplank.
Same for Urgot.
Same for Ryze (even tho they still suck at him)
Same for Irelia (even tho they fcked up)
Same for Yorick (who still is fcking trash but atleast balanced trash)
Same for Garen
Same for every other fcking champion who gets reworked in some way. Mostly its cause they have unhealthy mechanics, or stuff that wasnt designed to last forever. Remember those champs are fucking old, and weren't designed with the likes of Zoe etc in mind.
So yeah I have to defend them there from your critique.
