How old are you? I was 7, alone, and all I had was a cookbook, and just learned to read. I was home alone and cooked. Good for you. I used to make my mom grilled cheese sandwiches when she got home from work for me and my older brothers for dinner. Good for you.

ahwhh, so nice! Thank you Ina Baki It's for feeding a ton of people!!

I really really thought she was gonna cut herself cuz she kept cutting the potatoes without looking at what she's doing

There is a difference between creamy and watery soupy...... this was just too watery and didn't look appetizing
Rebecca Brand (1 year ago)
It if sits about 5 mins it will firm up, so the right out of the oven it may be too soupy, but just wait a few,the liquid gets absorbed by the potatoes.

Looks like "soup" and not Scalloped Potatoes. Been making them for years. Don't boil them ... peel slice thinly and place in a bowl of cold water. Make the cheese sauce on the side on the stove. Butter the baking pan and rub a crushed clove of garlic all over the buttered pan. Drain the potatoes and layer in an over lapping pattern on the bottom ... lightly cover with sauce. Repeat in layers with sauce. Shake the casserole dish to distribute the sauce evenly. Top with additional cheese, then bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, uncover and continue cooking uncovered watching closely so not to burn .. you want golden brown Scalloped Potatoes. Total cooking time at 375-400 1 hour - 1 hour and 30 minutes. Let set for 20 minutes to set up before serving. Why rush fine food when cooking for a dinner party? Fine food takes time. Question: Do you represent the candle company you reference ? Mine just came out of the oven and look amazing ... golden brown and set ... not soup. Ready as a side for a slow oven braised Brisket of Beef.

good recipe although i wouldnt pre cook the potatoes that much as i have also done that before and my potato bake almost turn into a creamy mash once they were cooked again in the oven. you want to pre cook them until they slightly soften so they hold there shape after baking and dont turn to mash

what do i do instead of heavy cream??
bigisland66 (2 years ago)
Great video. I was wondering if you ever add onions to your recipe?
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
I love adding onions to this! Great addition!
BILLYJOE957 (2 years ago)
can I sub the heavy cream with sour cream
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
Yes you can! I make many of my potato dishes that way, it's a different taste, but great as well!!!!! Add a little less, 1/2, and do the other half with pure butter, that's how I would handle that.

Thanks Ms.Rebbeca <3 When I was in 5th last year, we had these a lot :D Thanks I can tell my mom Lol
whomeplay (2 years ago)
I use only the round ones! lol :-) WMP (Depends on how thin you slice them)
whomeplay (2 years ago)
Here we go again, I have a new twist to add for making scalloped potatoes. First I don't precook my potatoes. I peel my potatoes and layer them in a dish. Potatoes sliced onions, cream of mushroom soup. After the dish is full of the layers, I put a layer of mustard (like French's mustard) on top, then all the mild cheddar cheese you want. 350f for one hour. Bone Appetite(The mustard is new) Who Me Play
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
+whomeplay Sounds great, but only 1 hour? How many potatoes do you use?
whomeplay (2 years ago)
I watched this video again and I use cream of mushroom soup not cream when I do the scalloped potatoes. :}-)  WMP Bone Appetite!
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
+whomeplay YUM, that sounds scrumptious!!

looks good, and maybe I should get you a mandolin huh? lol
Amir McDaniel (2 years ago)
+Rebecca Brand haha I see! I don't even have one, but I see they make things much easier I totally see where you're coming from.
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
+Amir McDaniel You bet Amir! I had one, I pulled it out for this, and fiddled with it, for some reason it was broken... (like how does that ever happen???), so I scrapped that idea. But in any case, in my cooking show, I really like to simplify and not a lot of people have mandolins, a rough chop and there we go!!

Theses tea lights look great. I think I will buy some to put on my boat to use at night when I go fishing. I fall asleep sometimes, so I wont catch the boat on fire. Just enough light but not to much. :-))))
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
+whomeplay That is exactly right, and they flicker like a real flame, they are truly amazing, I truly back this product. I think candles are really unsafe! Especially at a dinner party with all that wine/booze!
hollisterthug90 (2 years ago)
I've never liked scalloped potatoes but I've only had them from the box and always found them too salty. But yours look great!!
Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
+hollisterthug90 Terrific! These turned out less salty because of how I seasoned them. I ended up adding more salt at the table, to my taste (I like very salty!) so this recipe should be good for your taste! Thanks for writing in!
Unicorn Vloggers (2 years ago)

Rebecca Brand (2 years ago)
+Amanda Murahwa Thank you so much Amanda, your comment means so much. I've researched and researched scalloped potatoes because they were never wet, or creamy enough for me. This recipe I devised for all those reasons. It's so nice that you recognize all I put into this recipe. Big hugs.

Today I made hash browns with my iron, it was a mess!!! I'll release it soon! Thank you so much for being so kind to me always.
