How old are you? I was 7, alone, and all I had was a cookbook, and just learned to read. I was home alone and cooked. Good for you. I used to make my mom grilled cheese sandwiches when she got home from work for me and my older brothers for dinner. Good for you.
Looks like "soup" and not Scalloped Potatoes. Been making them for years. Don't boil them ... peel slice thinly and place in a bowl of cold water. Make the cheese sauce on the side on the stove. Butter the baking pan and rub a crushed clove of garlic all over the buttered pan. Drain the potatoes and layer in an over lapping pattern on the bottom ... lightly cover with sauce. Repeat in layers with sauce. Shake the casserole dish to distribute the sauce evenly. Top with additional cheese, then bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, uncover and continue cooking uncovered watching closely so not to burn .. you want golden brown Scalloped Potatoes. Total cooking time at 375-400 1 hour - 1 hour and 30 minutes. Let set for 20 minutes to set up before serving. Why rush fine food when cooking for a dinner party? Fine food takes time. Question: Do you represent the candle company you reference ? Mine just came out of the oven and look amazing ... golden brown and set ... not soup. good recipe although i wouldnt pre cook the potatoes that much as i have also done that before and my potato bake almost turn into a creamy mash once they were cooked again in the oven. you want to pre cook them until they slightly soften so they hold there shape after baking and dont turn to mash
Here we go again, I have a new twist to add for making scalloped potatoes. First I don't precook my potatoes. I peel my potatoes and layer them in a dish. Potatoes sliced onions, cream of mushroom soup. After the dish is full of the layers, I put a layer of mustard (like French's mustard) on top, then all the mild cheddar cheese you want. 350f for one hour. +Amir McDaniel You bet Amir! I had one, I pulled it out for this, and fiddled with it, for some reason it was broken... (like how does that ever happen???), so I scrapped that idea. But in any case, in my cooking show, I really like to simplify and not a lot of people have mandolins, a rough chop and there we go!!
Theses tea lights look great. I think I will buy some to put on my boat to use at night when I go fishing. I fall asleep sometimes, so I wont catch the boat on fire. Just enough light but not to much. :-))))
